Map Groningen
Groningen is located in the in the northern province of Groningen. The city gained city rights around the year 1000 and is the most important city in the north of The Netherlands.
The city of Groningen has about 200,000 inhabitants and houses a university. Because of the university the city houses a large student community. That's why the city is known in The Netherlands for its vibrant nightlife and cultural activities. Groningen has also the 4th tallest church tower, The Martini Tower. The foundations of this tower lie in the 13th century.
